- Create a folder called Garmin from the root of the storage card
- Extract gmapsupp.img from the zip file & copy to [storage card]\Garmin\
- For models that support Junction View, extract Product.JCV from the zip file and copy to [storage card]\Garmin\JCV\
- This method should works for all garmin gps units (PND, handheld, sports.. etc)
b) Using unit main memory
- In the main memory root, go to folder Garmin
- Usually you shall see there are already map files (gmapsupp.img, gmapprom.img ... ) exist in this folder.
- It is advisable to backup these *.img files before you overwrite any of them.
- Extract gmapsupp.img from the zip file & copy to Garmin folder.
- For models that support Junction View, extract Product.JCV from the zip file & copy to JCV subfolder, i.e. \Garmin\JCV\
Nuvi 1xxx, 2xxx, 3xxx
& all the latest models
a) Using microSD storage Card
Option 1
- Create a folder called Garmin from the root of the storage card
- Extract gmapsupp.img from the zip file & copy to [storage card]\Garmin\
- Extract Product.JCV from the zip file & Copy to [storage card]\Garmin\JCV\
Option 2
- Create a folder called Map from the root of the storage card
- Extract gmapsupp.img from the zip file & copy to [storage card]\Map\
- You can rename the gmapsupp.img to any other name such as msm.img or mymsm123.img .. etc
- Junction view will not work from this folder, so you can skip the step of copying product.jcv
b) Using unit main memory
Option 1
- In the main memory root, create a folder called Map
- Extract gmapsupp.img from the zip file & copy to the Map folder
- You can rename the gmapsupp.img to any other name such as msm.img or mymsm123.img .. etc
- Junction view will not work from this folder, so you can skip the step of copying product.jcv
Option 2
- When your nuvi is connected to pc, goto the nuvi main memory drive, example (F:). From the address bar, type F:\.system to access the hidden folder.
- Extract gmapsupp.img from the zip file.
- As filename gmapsupp.img is not recognized in this hidden folder, rename to gmapprom.img or gmapprom1.img and copy to overwrite the existing file in this .system folder. Please remember to backup any files that will be overwritten.
- Warning! This option is NOT recommended as it may bricks your unit. There are reasons why this folder is kept hidden. Do this on your own risk!
